Why we need your help

Support Our Cause: Maintaining our residential facilities comes at a significant cost. Despite working hard to meet minimum staff requirements, our staff team operates with limited resources and low salaries. Contrary to public belief, government subsidies only cover less than half of our expenses, and upcoming cuts in funding from DSD pose further challenges for us.

More about what we do.

25 % of people with Epilepsy, other neurological conditions, and intellectual disabilities will not be able to function independently in mainstream society. They need specialized care that includes 24-hour nursing, accommodation and nutrition, protective work, psycho-social treatment, family support, and evidence-based life skills programs through group work. These programs are aimed at increasing self-esteem, resilience, and independence and preventing homelessness, poverty, substance abuse, HIV, and exploitation, amongst others, gender-based violence (GBV). This is in line with DSD’s new priorities in Gauteng. Studies in other parts of the world have shown that deinstitutionalization actually increases homelessness, substance abuse, and GBV.

Our Skills Development and Protective Workshop is for people with epilepsy and multi-disabilities who are cared for by their families in the community and are unable to work in the open market. The protective workshops in East Rand and Johannesburg, give people that fall in this category a purpose. They have the opportunity to work in a safe and encouraging environment. They also receive psycho-social support and prevention programs and a nutritious meal every day. The prevention program also focuses on substance abuse, GBV, HIV, and other essential life skills to promote independence and resilience. Without this program, our beneficiaries will sit at home and will be vulnerable to all types of exploitation.

Our Projects

We've been assisting in ways that directly impact the lives of our beneficiaries. We offer services, workshops, and programs that fill in the gaps where it is needed the most. These are some of our projects.
